"High above the
skies the Mirror World needs help! A shadowy figure is unleashing chaos in a
peaceful world. Meta Knight flies into Mirror World to protect Dreamland.
However..." (Shows MK breaking Kirby in four alter egos... all the Kirby guys
heading into the mirror).
Info
Of course my main objective at E3 was to see any and all
Kirby things that might possibly be there. After hunting around the Nintendo
area, I was finally satisfied that nothing else was there except Kirby: The
Amazing Mirror (YES finally the official name).
The moment I got to the Nintendo section in the West Hall,
they were playing the promo clip of Amazing Mirror on this big screen. It seemed
promising and I got all
psyched and wondered what I would find. The Nintendo area was huge, it takes up
probably a 1/3 of the room, so I circled the whole thing maybe 2-3 times.
So, the first thing I noticed is that it was in a smaller
GBA area. The GameCube test stations are huge, there is usually a one person
wait for those if not more, but the GameBoy area could get pretty crowded. There were three
Kirby demo game stations, and as I stood waiting to record the video of the
promo clip I just sort of watched who was playing. There were people of all
ages, and they stayed for a good time. Two guys came up, and one teased the
other about playing Kirby, but he later tried it out and was also there for some
time too I might add to my amusement. ^_^
I played the
game for the first time in English which was nice, but there is no game play differences from the Japanese one at all…
except some of the enemy names are different. Here's a quick list of what I
noticed, the good and bad:
Official
Mini-Game Names:
Speed Eaters,
Crackity Hack, Kirby Wave Ride

.... Mr. Flosty! I have no idea what is up with this. I
thought maybe I was going blind but no.. it's definitely Flosty. I wasn't
too thrilled about that... it doesn't seem right.
N/A
Not many knew what to call this before, but the game has
him credited as 'Shadow Kirby'. It's safe to assume 'Dark Meta Knight' is
probably 'Shadow Meta Knight' too.
I will be back again to check out the game, with a notebook
and paper... I totally forgot it this time around. I'll write down the story,
more enemy name changes and such. I really stretched my time thin, but I will be back!
One last thing to note, because this was a demo version,
when you stopped playing a cute screen game up that said "Thanks for playing!"
Obviously I can't rip snaps from this, but here's one I've recreated. It
basically looked like this more or less.
I'll try and get a picture
next time.
All in all, it
was interesting. Miniscule compared to the Pokemon rally they had going on next
to it, drowning out virtually anything that might come through the tiny GameBoy.
I will admit I was a tad disappointed more wasn't done to say 'HEY! KIRBY OVER
HERE!'. It was more like, 'That's just our GameBoy games. OH AND OVER HERE IS
PAPER MARIO 2 AND DONKY KONGA!' Both games are actually quite appealing, but you
get what I mean. (I hope) hehe ^_^ To anyone doubtful about this game, I just
want to say I think it's one of the best Kirby games to date - it's really
excellent. It deserves so much more marketing and lime light than it gets/is
getting.
Nintendo DS
There was a lot of talk about this Nintendo DS system, and
possibly a Kirby game helping debut it, but I am getting the impression that
this was only revealed in the conferences, which is only open to
VIP/Marketer/Developers/etc. If it is around at the show, I'll have a better
look for it next time - I got a little lost hehe. =) I'll study the E3 Program
lists a little better to see if it's listed. Here are some links in case you
want more on it:
This is just a clip of
the Kirby promo they would play on the big screen. It's
pretty short, but 7 megs none the less. Sorry, I'm having
problems super condensing these, even zipped it's like 6
XD Download it if you want it, because I'll be moving it
to FilePlanet after E3.
Pictures
Two pictures
taken from the movies that played randomly on the big
screen (view the video above).
The opening screen.
These are pictures of the
station where you can pick up the GameBoy to play. It also
had controls and basic info on how to play.
Randomly, they would flash
logos on the walls that would fade again (you can see this
in the video above too). This is just a close up.
