Review: BeamAbility : Beam Title : Adventure, Kirby Super Star, Amazing Mirror, & Squeak Squad Reviewer : MatthewL Beam. First ability you come across in almost all the Kirby games, and has earned a special place for me. Its perfect for reaching those gaps a bit too far away, and it works against bosses that don't move, like Whispy and King Golem, really well. What really makes me love this ability so much is its simplicity, and the fact that you can get it almost anywhere. It's really one of the only abilities that's: decent, not that hard to get, and good. The other ones up there are ones like Cutter and Sword, but none of them match the simple pleasure of absolutely diminishing enemies, using a whip made out of... what is it made of? Um... I'll have to think about that one. The bad thing is that, although the simplicity is great, it's only got one move (except in Kirby Super Star, but I'll go into that later.) In most Kirby games, there is no dash attack, no jump attack, no side attack, just the plain old bean (or beam =P). Also, it is almost useless against some bosses, like Gobbler and other underwater thingummys. The game where Beam is truly what it should be to me (awesome) is Kirby Super Star. In that, you can shoot bubbles and the whole lot, but that would not please many people. I don't think that as many people appreciate Beam as much as I do. So there are people out there, satisfied only with the best. But what is the best? Is the most complicated, extravagant ability really the best? I do not think so. I am one to prefer those abilities like Fire and Beam, not ones like Jet and Ninja. It's not like I don't like these abilities, it's just that it doesn't have the same feel to it. So the next time you switch on that old NES or SNES, or any other console with Kirby on it, think twice about getting Hammer, or something along thoses lines, and stop to think about the other abilities, like Beam. I end this review saying, next time you play Kirby, get Beam. I don't think that you fully understand what it can do. |
