This is one power I've NEVER
used, and that's because it's only in the impossible-to-find
Kirby's Dreamland 3.
At that, it has at least THREE "official" names, but to one
item for attacking, which is why I don't use it's real name.
Time to clean up with Broom
Kirby!
The power actually goes by the name of "Clean"... or
"Cleanliness" if you're a Popelworks regular... or "Cleaning"
by animé naming. Kirby wields a broom to attack with. In my
opinion, calling it Clean would be like calling Hammer,
"Pound", or Sword, "Slash". Kirby wields the broom, and thus
it should be named that... but HAL has their reasons.
Kirby doesn't ONLY use the broom. Coupled with his animal
friends, he can use different cleaning tools to spruce up
Dream Land... why this power has been left out of other games
is probably because it's so weak. However, Broom Hatter has
been a Kirby character since his first outing on the GameBoy,
so why HAL took so long to allow Kirby to copy this ability...
that dares to confuse me. Maybe it's because Broom Hatter
never attacks. Broom Kirby can simply... sweep dust at
enemies. It's a pitiful short-range attack, and far from
strong, but Kirby's using a broom. Dream Land isn't that
dirty, so what would you expect? Maybe it would have had
better range and power in
Kirby 64, but the only OTHER enemy with this ability -
Keke the witch - flew far in the background, out of Kirby's
reach. Not as bold as in KDL3...
Getting back to the game the ability was featured in, Kirby
DID have more impressive ways to use it. Rick became a fluffy
duster, Coo a feather duster, and Kine had a plunger in his
mouth for attacking. Pitch+Clean allowed Kirby to splash some
water on his foes, and he
could fly on the broom with Chuchu, which was the strongest
the ability could be. I don't really recall what he did with
Nago, but it wasn't too impressive as far as strength is
concerned. Broom was rather limited, but cute nonetheless.
Of course,
such an obscure ability remains forgotten game after
game... yet somehow, Broom edged out Beam, Hi-Jump,
Ball, etc to earn not one, but TWO animé
appearances (one, which
was seen in the dub being based off Harry Potter (brooms
being akin to sorcery and witchcraft), the other related
to cleaning). Kirby wears a yellow bandana with
turquoise stars... I'd say he doesn't want to muss his
hair while he's cleaning, but Kirby doesn't HAVE hair.
Strangely, in the cold virus episode, Kirby was
wandering around with the very same broom he uses as
Clean/Cleaning/Broom Kirby. I guess some weapons, he's
able to keep after discarding the ability, especially if
he inhaled an enemy to get it (so he probably has
Dedede's hammer, Bugzzy's sword, and some form of
umbrella laying around somewhere). Using the broom, he
can... sweep multicolored sparkles at his foes, making
enemy brooms go flying, and Broom King explode... and
all the time I saw the fake Lauryn, I was expecting
she'd be a Keke, not a Haboki gone royal... I can only
wonder what Duston is. Lest I forget, Kirby can mount
his broom and fly while using the ability, something
probably inspired by his flight abilities with Jet and
Wing... similarly, Tornado Kirby can float in midair as
if riding in his own tornado, but WITHOUT killing
everything in sight... really, HAL needs to tap their
animé logic for the Copy Abilities for the next game.
I've already figured some new broom-based combat
moves... a blinding dust storm, a broom pole vault
stomp, and a broom-planting kick move come to mind, as
well as the flying, and a simple "beat you with the
broom like a bad cat" attack.
Broom Kirby rates a 7/10. Weak, but cute. CAN be
powerful, and rather adorable.... just wish I had KDL3 to
REALLY rip with it.
