Oh how I've been wanting to dissect this power. Double imagery
and reflective ability are the order of the day with
Mirror Kirby
Mirror is one of the totally EXCLUSIVE powers to
Kirby Super Star (so
far, anyway)deadly power. Not one the typical Bomb/Sword/Fire
fans would flock to on name alone, but it's actually one of a
few powers that make Kirby almost INVINCIBLE. And it's really
very strong. With the right moves, you can finish off your
opponents in seconds flat. And Kirby looks soooo CUTE in his
jester hat, probably the only bit of Christmas decorative
headgear he owns. Red and green, with miniature stars. Nice.
Mirror Kirby also wields a wand similar to that of Beam Kirby,
but all gold instead of mostly green.
Anyways, Mirror isn't too common (Simirror are skittish, you
see), and at first, you'll probably stick to using the guard
and Reflect Force. Not bad, but Kirby can be
grabbed while gurading, as well
as sliced by Meta Knight's henchmen (but not MK himself???),
pounded by Dedede's hammer, and swept away by tornadoes. He'll
take less damage from the contact (except the grabs and
tornadoes), but the rapid slices can drain his HP FAST!
Reflect Force, like Reflect Guard, can... reflect enemy
attacks into them, dealing the damage they'd have done to
Kirby to themselves. The mirror shards also do 12 damage to
whatever enemy they hit... useful in battles against enemies
with projectile attacks. If you're not too willing to get
close, then pitch mirrors, and hope they reflect an attack or
two. I'm not sure how much damage a reflected attack does to
an enemy (it's pretty much impossible to calculate, especially
with Computer Virus, who is invulnerable when attacking), but
I imagine it's comparable to Kirby's exhaled star attack, or
the Wheelie Rider Shot. You can reflect bombs, cutter blades,
ice blocks, Bugzzy's mini-bugs, Butterfingers' (or whatever
the OTHER Suplex-bearing miniboss in KSS is called) energy
blasts, beams, and quite a few of Meta Knight's attacks (you
haven't seen funny until MK Sword Beams himself to death)with
both Reflect Force and Reflect Guard. Anything not reflected
is either harmlessly bounced PAST Kirby (i.e. the Halberd
Reactor's blasts), or it gets destroyed on impact with the
shield. However, some STRONG lasers (Marx, Combo Cannon) can
still hurt.
If you want to be a Mirror Kirby master, you need to learn to
make use of Mirror Cut and Mirror Body. Mirror Cut leads in to
Reflect Force; hold the "Y" button to do a Mirror Cut and
immediately start using Reflect Force. Simply tapping "Y" will
just give Mirror Cut after Mirror Cut... which is fine; Mirror
Cut does 22 damage, and can kill the Witch before she can
attack, provided she doesn't go first. (She has 80 HP, and if
you can squeeze off 4 Mirror Cuts before she moves, that's 88
damage) Mirror Cut IS short range though, and not as powerful
as Hammer. However, by mixing between Mirror Cut and Reflect
Force, you can keep enemies at bay... if they get bounced back
by the attacks. Mirror Body is probably your safest bet
though. Although you're damaged if touched after Kirby comes
back together, this cute little attack packs plenty of power.
16 damage going out, and 22 coming back in. So make good use
of Kirby's mirror doubles. Give yourself enough room to hit
the bosses going out and coming in, but not so much that the
attack ends with you bumping into the boss. It's tricky, but
the power is worth the risk, especially if the boss has
projectile attacks as well. Using Mirror Body, you can move
Kirby THROUGH attacks like Bugzzy's Dash Capture and MK's
vertical tornado. Mirror Body is also just as easily used as
an evasive maneuver... split at the last second to dodge
projectiles.
The animé
has a bit more work to do with Mirror Kirby, and at the
time this was written, he's been in one of two episodes
to feature the ability. Apparently, he can get Mirror by
inhaling anything with a reflective surface, including
mirrors, and Kazaguru/Windwhipper's windmill throwing
stars (wasn't that an attack in Ninja Gaiden?). Kirby
can guard himself with the wand, and can not only split
in two, but try TWENTY or so Kirbies. Yikes!!! Mirror
fosters confusion, and not knowing which Kirby is the
real one (Kirby's right handed, so there's a clue) would
sure enough confuse me... kinda like Double Team in
Pokémon, but worse. And lest I forget Mirror Cut...
well, he creates a blade at the end of his wand, and
just like the game version, it shines in a rainbow of
colors... THAT is why it looks more or less like a
Rainbow Sword... the game makes it appear as if Kirby's
rainbow blade is just refracted light from the wand
being swung so fast. Reflect Force hasn't yet been used
in the show, and for all anyone knows, it might not ever
be. But I figure if it were, he'd probably make a deadly
fun house of sorts with the mirrors instead of just
plain flinging them at enemies.
Fun lethal, cute... yep, Mirror Kirby's another one to rate
pretty high. 10/10, BECAUSE of the fact that while he
can reflect/deflect almost anything, he's NOT invincible.
That's what Stone Kirby is for... now excuse me while I admire
myelf...
