Importing….. Is it as bad as getting the ROM
There has been a lot of talk about importing recently so I though I’d
add my two cents.
Everyone knows that importing is illegal right? Well if you didn’t
you sure know now. Importing is where you buy a game from another
country, for arguments sake lets just say Japan and the game is Magic Mirror
and ship it to your country, ignoring all the labels that say. “For
sale and use in Japan only.”
I own the Japanese version of Magic Mirror and as such I own it
illegally. My point is, is it really all that bad, I mean look at it this way:
If you import this is were your money goes
Nintendo of Japan (Supply Shipment) -$ Japanese Game Store/Supplier-$
Import Site Owner-$ Consumer
If you download the ROM from the net.
Nintendo of Japan releases game. –Someone puts the ROM on his site-
you download it and pay nothing to Nintendo- Nintendo loses the money
from the thousands of people who don’t pay a cent.
What I am trying to say is that if you import it at least someone had
to buy the game in the first place and that gives money to Nintendo. But
if you download the ROM, Nintendo doesn’t get a cent. This means that
in the end no-one will bother making Kirby games in the end.
You could raise the argument that Nintendo of America might not release
the game if everybody owns the Japanese version, but they are far more
likely to release it if the Japanese sales were high. To conclude, even
though it may be illegal to own and play the import at least Nintendo
gets the money.
