As the grandfather clock struck midnight, the noise of things falling and ripping apart in the house grew deafening. Everyone hurried to the sitting area, unsure of what to do. The killer left shortly before midnight, solving the mystery much earlier and not taking a chance to hang around. As Tac the killer, and all the ghosts left the mansion, it seemed like a cloud lifted. Tac became Tac again, and could not even remember killing anybody. PurePyro, StarRodMan, Diddgery and Enperuto changed out of their ghostly forms and were once again... alive! Even more astonishing, the butler came running outside and ripped off his mask... it was none other than Debageldond!
Disaster Kirby, GameTrekker, Warpstar99, Dash, Mooglekirby, Jboy, svk1525, STS, Aipom, Dr. Randomness, Ivyna J Spyder, MizAngel, Smash Kirby, Hypershadow, Dark Knight, CMK, Meta Warp, Reig, KCCKirby, D Fighter, and Cyberflame stood staring at the doomed mansion in confusion.
A few brave people outside waiting, tried to use their keys to open the door and let out the remaining guests... but everyone seems to have lost their keys. They've vanished in thin air! The door is locked, and will not budge.
Suddenly, the mansion lifted off the ground, light poured out of every window in a blinding flash... and it was gone! Dust and dirt flew in all directions. As the dust settled, it was clear the house was gone, and only a patch of trees remained.
Sadly, it seems Iron Kirby, Snuffles, Bobv1.0, Waddly Dee, and Dreamland Messenger were still in the house... until a mysterious purple light appeared... and a swirling mass of gas spat all of them out one by one. It appears wherever the house went, it decided to come back and drop off it's captives.
Everyone sat in utter silence, confused about what had just happened. One by one, everyone came to their senses, and someone shouted out that their invitation in their pocket was gone. Everyone else realized their own invitations were missing too. Just as everyone was mysteriously invited, the house vanished just as quickly. Then, a light caught everyone's eyes, and it seemed to be coming from the trees. Everyone huddled into a group, and made their way slowly towards the trees.
A small and unmarked grave stood under a dozen weeping willow trees, the only strange thing was -- a teddy bear was propped up against it. The lights were flickering, and a low wind began to howl and blow. A paper drifted by, and someone caught it. Everyone squeezed closer, trying to read. It was a newspaper... from 1937.
October 26th, 1937
"The town's eccentric and much loved reclusive toy maker, M. Moonlight, appears to have perished in a fire. The fire began earlier in the night, and volunteer firemen were unable to extinguish the flames until a little after midnight. The Moonlight Mansion was entirely destroyed. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but many believe it was started by one of M. Moonlight's candles. Moonlight refused to wire the house with electricity, except for a couple of rooms. His body has not been found.
M. Moonlight began his success and fortune in the town by spending his life and talent as a toy maker. Once owning Moonlight's Toy Shop on Main St, he later converted it into a children's hospital, a cause he funded throughout the rest of his life. He wrote out explicit details to keep it open after his death in his will. Moonlight closed the shop after the disappearance of his wife and daughter. It is thought he never left the house again after their mysterious disappearance (or as many suspect -- death), he could be occasionally seen on top of the roof using a telescope.
However, he remained famous and loved by many due to his contributions to the town. One of which included employing the post office each Christmas to come and pick up toys he would leave on his front lawn. Post office workers were instructed to take them to Town Square, where every child of the town was able to receive one toy.
"He was a kind, gentle soul. I never knew him of course, but my parents were often invited with nearly everyone else in town, to attend his lavish Halloween parties every year. He loved practical jokes, mystery games, and his family dearly. It's been years, but his presence is still felt by many." says one local resident.
M. Moonlight, has no living relatives."
As the last line was read, the paper burst out into confetti, and a dark laugh was heard beyond the trees. Everyone screamed and ran in terror, as a figure began to move behind the trees.
The next morning, everyone returned to the patch of trees... and everything was gone. All except a box... as everyone gathered around and began to open it, it was a box full of teddy bears. Each teddy bear was addressed to each guest, and sewn on the tag were the initials "MM".
The small card only read: "Thanks for playing!"
