I have super-basic cable, but like I said, I never use it.

But I don't really use Netflix or any of those Roku channels either.


I use good, old-fashioned DVDs and a DVD player. And occasionally YouTube.

Cable is my true love, but with the death of it on the horizon, I’ve been wanting to try streaming subscription services too.

My mom got me Disney+ when it launched and I love it. Mostly for all the Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney shows that they never gave an official release of on DVD or even digital, which is a lot of them. The entirety of Lilo & Stitch: The Series is on there which I love because it’s basically the Disney equivalent of Pokémon with all the quirky experiments that have their own number not unlike a PokéDex. They have almost every episode of Out of the Box. Before then, almost all the episodes were considered “Lost” by The Lost Media Wiki. It’s incredible.

There’s still a lot of stuff missing, but what they have already is amazing, and there might be more coming soon!

(Here’s hoping the rumor of PB&J Otter coming to the service isn’t just a rumor! )

It’s been NEARLY 3 YEARS, but yesterday all 65 episodes of PB&J Otter were added to Disney+, making it the first time in forever it’s been available officially/legally. The bad news is that it’s using PAL prints, which means it’s higher pitched than it’s supposed to be. That’s a major disappointment for a show that had an original song almost every episode. There’s also some artifacting, but it’s not too bad and before this we had to rely on recordings of TV airings with screenbugs and credit interruptions, so I can’t be picky. It’s in the intended 4:3 ratio which I’m very happy about. Also, it’s over two decades old at this point; I think this is the best quality we’ll ever see the show in. 4:3 cel animated shows were not meant to be projected on our modern gizmos.

Bear in the Big Blue House was also added yesterday. It’s in (mostly) great quality, and unlike PB&J Otter it’s in NTSC pitch, but 9 episodes are missing. This isn’t as bad as it sounds when you realize the show had 117 episodes, but it’s still baffling. Especially how part 1 of the Christmas two-parter is available, but not part 2.

On a related note, streaming services are mostly garbage now. The streaming bubble might finally be popping after the oversaturation of the market. I really do wish cable TV could go back to being in its peak. And the DVD market.

On an actually-related-to-what-the-thread-was-originally-about note, I’ll try to watch Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer again this year. Maybe some other so bad it’s good classics like Rapsittie Street Kids too. It’s not long until the Christmas season arrives. I’ve gotta get prepared in a few weeks.
