Soooo, KRR! What game(s) have you been playing lately?

I've been playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIV myself. I really enjoyed the Endwalker expansion. I truly feel they've outdone themselves. I'll be very surprised if they don't win a number of awards for it. I'll leave it at that to avoid spoiling things. I really, really like the Scholar class.

I've also been generally playing games with my friends, they sort of kidnap me to play a variety of different games whenever they feel like it, such as:
  • Mabinogi (whenever some events are going on)
  • Project Zomboid
  • Dead by Daylight
I've had to avoid playing games for a long stint due to work, so I've become really interested in exploring what's out there. I'd love to hear what everybody else has been playing!

Kirby Air Ride, mostly! Got it for Christmas 2020 and I've been obsessed with it ever since.

I miss Air Ride so much, especially City Trial. It's been almost 20 years, so I doubt they'll do it, but if they ever make a sequel or another version of it, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

Me too, for sure - a sequel would be so cool if they did it! And I agree, City Trial is amazing lol.

Kirby Mass Attack. It’s a lot more painful and frustrating than I remember it being. The presentation is nice though. But presentation isn’t something that can save gameplay. At least we got the extras from this. A Pinball Land sequel, a top-down shooter with a Sailor Waddle Dee cameo, and a sorta-kinda-butnotreally RPG with a Dark Matter sprite that looks like it was a fan creation. (I don’t know if that last thing was a compliment or a complaint.)

At least it’s not as tedious and boring as Canvas Curse. The unskippable cutscenes, constant mid-bosses, questionable controls and camera, and dragged out stages with too many medals (dang gold stars) in Mass Attack are unbearable but the stage variety is good, particularly in the later levels. I replayed Canvas Curse last year and it was full of filler. But just like that game there’s unnecessarily difficult things you have to do to get 100%. It took me Y E A R S to 100% Mass Attack, and I never did the same for Canvas Curse. (Seriously, the Canvas Curse sub-game bosses are BAD. Why did they think it was a good idea to lock medals behind those? Especially Paint Roller’s game, which has the worst controls/line detection ever?!)

Canvas Curse is on that list of games I have where I just didn't get to complete because I had to work a lot. I should make a backlog list and start playing through games like that again. I did play it a little bit and found it kind of enjoyable, but it was a totally different time in my life back then. I wonder what I'll think of it now...

Thanks for reminding me it exists!

Umm… you’re welcome? I personally think there’s more forgettable Kirby games (especially since Canvas Curse got wildly positive reviews at launch and Squeak Squad’s reviews took the hurt because of it :( ) but everyone has a different viewpoint on things.

I gave up on Canvas Curse partway through years ago. I just found it too tedious and frustrating. I also STILL haven't 100%'ed Mass Attack years later... dang Volcano Valley. But I'm close now, just a few medals left!

The medals can be a bit tough, and there’s far too many of them(186!), but the achievements are much worse. And unlike Helper to Hero in Super Star Ultra (where you only need to beat it with one helper, beating it with all is just a bonus), you need to get ALL the achievements to have 100%. It sucks. :beaneangry:

Let's see...

Destiny 2, Monster Hunter Rise / World, Phantasy Star Online NGS, Animal Crossing, and Pokemon Legends Arceus lately. Sprinkle in some Guilty Gear Strive here and there as well.

Outside of that not a lot. D&D has been on hiatus for some time due to scheduling conflicts because adulting, lol.

Metroid Dread, Pokemon Legend Arceus, Kirby Planet Robobot and Animal Crossing. What is being an adult? I still feel like I'm a child sometimes.

For my 'fun' games I've (I suppose obviously) been playing a lot of KatFL. Also, Sonic 3 AIR. There are so many mods for that game I don't think I'll ever get tired of it. I'm also playing with Sonic Forever, Sonic 2 Absolute and CD Restored. What can I say, I like 2D Sonic games. :P

My more 'serious' games are OG Quake and Doom. The mapsets that have been coming out over the past few years for Quake are mid blowing. I genuinely believe that some of the best level designers are in the Quake community. And, Doom, I mean, what is there to say. Doom content is never ending and there's always something interesting over the horizon.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Kirby's Return to Dreamland and Kirby Air Ride. Little bit of Pokémon Rumble World interspersed.

Kirby’s Block Ball, Wario Land 2 and 3, Golden Sun: The Lost Age. That last one I only play every once in a while since it’s a vast RPG and could easily overwhelm me if I don’t take it slow.
