Finally, a new 2-D artwork of mine, after so long of time! This picture combines the most popular characters of Kirby with the classic Japan-exclusive game YuYuKi. In the past, main characters Chao and Goku have made cameos in Dreamlands 2 and 3, possibly due to Shimomura's involvement. YuYuKi is a text-based adventure game for the Famicom Disk System, based on the classic Chinese story of “Journey to the West”. Here, Kirby, King Dedede, Waddle Dee, and Meta Knight respectively portray characters Goku, Sanzo, Hakkai, and Gojo on their quest across the land, to enlightenment. I would have included Ribbon as Chao, but I wanted to save space at the top for other purposes relating to my long-awaited Mailbag Manga. Unfortunately, due to the insane amount of work I have been putting into it, the grand-epic one-shot story wont be done for at least one more week. With that said, I just wanted everyone to know that I am not dead, and my regular art-output of essence pics and painted-sculptures will resume once this ordeal has passed. As always, anticipate the greatness, and keep keeping-on KRR~!

@FK: Whaha, thanks alot Very Happy This pic was simply drawn on paper, then inked, color-penciled, and outlined in more ink. The only program I used was Paint, to resize it, erase small blotches, and type the words at the bottom.
@JG: Yes, that is absolutely correct! Now that I think about it, alot of things I enjoy seem to take from this story.

Is that a Kappa hat that Meta Knight is wearing?
Dedede-Daimyo   [Feb 09, 2010 at 01:27 AM]
@EK: Ah, yes! Good eye, the character MK is portraying is a sand monk, commonly interpreted as the Kappa in the Japanese version of the story. In addition, Waddle Dee's character is obviously a pig, while Kirby's is a monkey. Dedede is a plain priest, but rides a scooter which possesses the heart of a dragon.

Isn't this actually from a Chinese story? Sun Kong...? Question

I love this story. Japanese fairytales are interesting, in how they rarely have happy endings. I was always interested in playing the game Chao and Goku cameoed from. Wonderful drawing, I especially like King Dedede.

Yeah, both Dragon Ball and this game both come from the same Chinese story.

Awesome, the characterization is cool and good, the simply the draw is Amazing and Super Cool. But what Dragon Ball Saga is, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball GT. I only know Goku, although i think that the characters belongs to the Dragon Ball Saga. Anyway, amazing work. Congrats. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Thankyou everyone Razz. All this talk about Dragon Ball reminds me of just how much the series has influenced my work; it is actually one of the first things that got me into Asian art and culture. The original series, Dragon Ball (not Z or beyond) initially drew heavily from the Oriental style; the author started off paralleling Saiyuki (as in Yuyuki here/ Journey to the West). Characters translated to Toriyama's work include: Sun Wukong= Goku; Xuanxang= Bulma; Zhu Bajie= Oolong; Sha Wujing= Yamcha; as well as the story of the Ox King of Fire Mountain. After the first saga, the story diverged from the source and all that was left was the concept of enemies becoming friends. I should know, I have every manga volume of the original (not including Z). Speaking of manga~ Dragon Ball has also somewhat influenced my Mailbag Manga (upcoming) as you will see next week (hopefully). This project is really something I have invested a lot of time and work into, so I hope everyone about the site reads it and is hyped-up for its release! Shi, I've written a lot, too.

I'm a Dragon Ball original fan too, I like Dragon Ball Z too but not as much as the Original! Dragon Ball is one of the best mangas I have ever read and is a insperation to all manga artists Laughing but don't make me talk about GT Mad

Akira Toriyama's work in general is very inspiring. In particular I strongly admire his work on "Chrono Trigger". Very excited for the Mailbag Manga =).
