Information!
The Bandai
Satellaview system is a virtually unknown system in the
US. Originating from Japan, this system was made to be an
add-on for the Super Famicom (Super NES). Players could
connect the Bandai system and then between certain hours
they could receive game news and a variety of games just
for the system that sort of downloaded onto the Bandai
system.
The games are relatively
simple, but the games themselves contained big names like
Kirby, Chrono Trigger, Zelda, Yoshi, Mari and more. This
system was in service for 5 years, between 1995-2000! Yet
most people outside of Japan have never heard of it, save
for the internet exposure.
Kirby No Omocha Hako - Beesuboruu
(translated roughly to Kirby's Toy Box - Baseball), was just a
simple one screened game that featured Kirby being the
ball. It plays somewhat like pinball, where you must hit
the ball in one of the scoring slots, or if you fail to
make it in any slot, you get a strike. Your goal is to get
as many runs as possible, and just aim for a high score.
The gameplay is a little hard to get used to, and the
timing is clumsy, but all in all it's addicting and fun
for a short while. The game plays forever, until you get 3
outs. There is also a 2 player option, which is much more
fun that playing solo.
While the
intro screen flashes the Kirby Super Star menu, it's
apparant that this may have been an add-on idea at one
point, or Super Star was just used to promote the game as
they both came out the same year in Japan. Whatever the
case, there is supposedly more Kirby Bandai games out
there, but Homerun Race is the only one that has been
found.. According to the Nintendo Database, these are the
rest:
