The DS's touch screen is now
Kirby's stomach! If Kirby inhales items or abilities in a
bubble, he can store up to five things at a time. You can
select them by tapping them, or drag them to the top of the
screen to make Kirby spit it out again.
The new ability, 'Bubble
Kirby' allows Kirby to trap enemies and items inside bubbles
for later use.
Certain items can also be
mixed. If you mix use the stylus to mix two food items
together, they'll become a Max Tomato. You can also collect
what looks like a tiny Kirby in a bubble- if you collect
three and mix them together, you get a 1-UP.
If you mix two abilities
together, you'll just get a random ability- the exceptions
are Sword and Bomb. Once you upgrade those with the Copy
Scroll (see below) then you can mix them with certain other
abilities for elemental upgrades.
You also use the palette to
store treasure that you find- make sure you have an empty
spot!
Treasure Chests
One of the main goals of the
game is to collect the 120 treasure chests strewn throughout
the levels. There's anywhere from zero to three in each.
There are two types- small
red chests, and large blue chests which usually contain
better treasure.
However, getting a large
chest will usually trigger a battle with one of the Dorocche
Gang (The Squeaks), and you must either defeat them or race
them to the goal. If you're hit, you'll lose the chest and
they'll grab it. If they get it to their base first, you'll
have to do the level over!
Copy
Abilities and Copy Scrolls
Kirby's abilities are back
and better than ever, but with some twists! A new feature is
the ability to alter the environment. In addition to cutting
ropes and hitting pegs, Kirby can now burn grasses, freeze
water and harden lava to get to new areas and obtain
treasure chests.
Certain chests contain 'Copy
Scrolls', which will upgrade a certain ability. Each one
does something different, so check the abilities section for
more information!
Other
Types of Treasure
There is a wide variety of
items you can collect in the game. Some are just for fun,
but others are required to beat the game.
Seal Stars - There are
five of these hidden in different levels. You have to
collect them all to get through the star door in world 7.
Sound Track -
Different song collections, but you also need the player to
be able to listen to them!
Extra Life - Much like
in the Legend of Zelda, these hearts will add to Kirby's
total life bar.
Keys - Find these to
unlock an extra level in each world.
Ghost Medal - If you
find all the pieces, a new miniboss will appear in each
world that can give Kirby the Ghost ability.
Trophies - You don't
find these in chests- you get them for defeating the boss of
each world.
Color Spray - 19
different colors to paint Kirby! There are lots of new ones
compared to 'Kirby & the Amazing Mirror' too, like Shadow
and even pure white.
Palette Styles -
Customize the look of the copy palette with six different
patterns.
Secret Map - A
mysterious map of Popstar that will unlock a special level
if you find all the pieces.
Graphic Pieces - Find
all the pieces of four different Kirby pictures!
Strawberry Shortcake -
If Kirby beats the game with 100%, he and his cake will be
reunited!
