Dedede's castle dominates the landscape
on the highest point in Pupupuland. It's full of traps and
secrets, and is home to Dedede himself and his servants...
Fumu is the other main character after
Kirby. She's one of the most intelligent characters,
and enjoys things like marine biology and history, and
basically all things about Dreamland. However, she's also
one of the few people who really know what Dedede's like
and is constantly suspicious of him. She tries to
get the others to listen, but they rarely do.
Fumu's a nice girl, a bit paranoid at
times but it's hard to blame her. The people she
gets along with best are Kirby and Meta Knight, more the
latter because she can at least have an intelligent
conversation with him!
She's is also the only person who can
summon Kirby's Warp Star, because she 'loves and cares for
him' and Kirby's too young to do it on his own. Her
relationship with Kirby is like a mother/child or
older sister/baby brother type, and she treats him more
like that than the soldier he really is- but Kirby doesn't
mind.
Bun is in many ways your average
little boy. (Who also is in need of a haircut.) He's
not too bright, he loves to play with his friends, and he
can be a pain in the rear. He's stubborn, and he
tends to act before thinking of the consequences.
Usually he means well, but it doesn't keep him from
making life a living hell for some of the other
characters. But he's so darn cute, how could you get
mad at the lil guy? Tuff can usually be found
hanging around with a group of three Cappy kids- Honey,
Iroo and Hohhe- and usually Kirby too.
Japanese
Name: デデデ大王
Dedede Daio (Great King)
English Name: King Dedede
Japanese Voice Actor:
Kenichi Ogata
English Voice Actor: ???
Dedede is the ruler of
Dreamland. No one knows why, or even who ruled them
before he did. (He says he's ruled for 300 years,
but can he really be THAT old?) His interests include
ordering monsters to try killing Kirby or just to
terrorize the populace, eating, being mean to Escargon,
and bird watching. (Well, he IS a bird, ya know. XD)
His dislikes include everything Kirby and Kirby related.
Dedede's very jealous of Kirby. At first he was
trying to convince everyone that Kirby wasn't a great hero
by sending monsters to beat him, but that didn't work.
Then he tried kicking Kirby
out of his kingdom- but that didn't work either! So now he
pretty much tolerates Kirby, but that doesn't keep
Nightmare himself from sending things to get Kirby
instead!
Dedede does have a softer side- but it only shows up
rarely, like when the entire planet is going to be
destroyed by an asteroid. He might even truly care about
Kirby, deep down. Is that the true Dedede?
If you think Dedede acts like a spoiled kid, you're
right- it's been said that he experienced some trauma as
a child that caused his mental development to stop! That
would explain a lot, wouldn't it?
Japanese
Name: ドクター・エスカルゴン
Doctor Escargon
English Name: Escargoon
Escargon is more
respectable a character than his dub name would suggest.
It's pretty clear that he's the castle's resident mad
scientist wannabe. He has a wide range of
specialties, from machinery to chemicals to... botany.
(There even seems to be an encyclopedia on that subject he
wrote. It's not too surprising... He's a snail, for crying
out loud! Still, if he likes plants, he has no place
saying Dedede's bird watching is lame.) When Dedede isn't
using something he got from Nightmare, he's using some
weird thing Escargon cooked up. (They're usually not any more
successful.)
Escargon may seem like a
jerk, but he's really a nice guy under all that- or is he
really a jerk who sometimes acts like a nice guy?
It's really hard to say, but kindness comes easily to him,
even if it IS only when he needs help. Maybe he just
acts mean to get Dedede's approval...? We may never know.
What is known is that he's very attached
to the king- in fact, in the original anime he even says
he loves him! (Though what he meant by that, no one is
sure.) Whatever feelings he has for the king,
it's hard to tell just what Dedede thinks of him
sometimes. Does he just like having someone to boss
around, or is he kind of attached to him to? We probably
won't ever know that either!
Japanese
Name: メタナイト卿 Sir Meta Knight
English Name: Meta Knight
Meta Knight is a sane man in an insane world. Or maybe
he's an insane man in an even crazier world.
For the most part he stays in the background
unless he needs to dispense some advice or give Kirby a hand. Meta
Knight is a Star Warrior like Kirby- one of the last ones left from a
battle years before. After his comrades were defeated, Meta Knight
traveled, hoping to find young warriors to battle Nightmare.
During his travels he was joined by Sword
and Blade, and later they arrived on Popstar. Star ships are programmed
to go where monsters are, and he found out about Dedede's interest in
monsters so he swore loyalty to him, staying in hopes another Star
Warrior would come.
Meta Knight is an odd one. He has an odd
sense of humor and has a thing for being more random than mysterious,
and seems to like compensating for his height- whenever you see him
he's sure to be standing on top of something.
Some wonder why Meta Knight stands idly by while Kirby gets his pink
keister kicked- there's a good reason. Meta Knight explains that in
order for Kirby to mature, he must be pushed to his limits in order to
surpass them. Meta Knight WILL help if Kirby is truly in danger, but
aside from that he knows what Kirby can handle.
While some people view MK as completely unflappable and all-knowing, in
fact he's really not. In the original, you see that a lot of things
take him by surprise.

Japanese Name: ブレイドナイト
Sword Knight
English Name: Blade Knight Japanese Voice Actress: Chiro Kanzaki

Sword and Blade are Meta Knight's two followers. Nightmare's army
attacked their home and in order to survive they became bandits. When
they tried robbing Meta Knight, the monster Wolfwrath attacked them.
Meta Knight saved them both and they swore loyalty to him, wanting to
help him search for more Star Warriors.
Sadly, aside from that there isn't much to say about these two, they
get so little screen time. All that is known is they're very loyal to
Meta Knight, and are pretty much always seen together.
Japanese
Name: メーム
Meemu/Memu
English Name: Lady Like
Japanese Voice Actress:
Yuko Mizutani
English Voice Actress: ???
The mother of Fumu and Bun. Maybe a little ditzy, but we love 'er
anyway! XD She's usually very laid back, easily pleased,
and I'd say she's almost naive at times. She also
faints easily. Aside from that she's one of the few
characters who bothers directly questioning some of what
Dedede does, and that's usually whenever it might be
something that would threaten her children. (And even then
she lets him get away with a lot!)
And actually, while she does seem like a
ditz at times, there are times when she definitely knows
more than you'd think. She and Parm really make an adorable
couple, too.
They both had starring roles in the
episode 'The Ring Story of Parm and Memu' but it wasn't
shown in the US.
Memu also cares very much about her
appearance- she won't even let a few wrinkles mar her
skin. She's positively paranoid about that. (It's
paid off though; she definitely doesn't look like a woman
who's had two kids.)
Japanese
Name: パーム
Paamu/Parm
English Name: Sir Ebrum
Parm is
Dedede's Cabinet Minister (not Prime minister as the dub
incorrectly states) and though we're never actually told
what he does exactly, it's pretty much implied that he
tries to help out the people in town when he can.
Also, his job apparently means he gets to have a nice
little apartment in the castle for him and his family to
live in. His family being his wife, Memu, and their
two children, Fumu and Bun. Personality wise, I'd say he's
your typical kind, caring father-type- and more than a
little clumsy. He seems to have a
streak of bad luck too, especially when it comes to rings.
=P
He gets upset whenever Fumu or his wife
questions the king, which they do a lot... Though it's
fairly certain he feels the same way, (how can he not when
half the things Dedede does threaten his own kids!) but
most likely he just doesn't want to lose his job. He
has more influence (if any) over what happens in the
kingdom from where he is now.
Japanese
Name: ワドルドゥ
Waddle Doo
English Name: Waddle Doo
Japanese Voice Actress:
Yuko Mizutani
English Voice Actor: ???
The only Waddle Doo in the castle, he is
basically in charge of all the Waddle Dees. He seems
to be fluent in many languages, including Waddle Dee, so
many times he acts as an interpreter. Waddle Doo is
very loyal to King Dedede, though it isn't clear why he
follows him.
Unlike most Waddle Doo, he can't shoot
laser beams from his eye. Shame.
Japanese
Name: ワドルディ
Waddle Dee
English Name: Waddle Dee
Japanese Voice: None
English Voice: None
There are many Waddle Dees in the castle.
In fact no one has been able to count
them. (but there may be over 1000!) All that's certain is there are a lot of them and
it's because of their hard work that the castle's not
still a pile of rubble. The Waddle Dees don't speak;
they just do what they're told and have a habit of falling
on their faces.
According to Curio, Waddle Dees normally
travel in 'flocks' until someone gives them a meal and a
place to stay, and they'll settle there in order to repay
the person. So apparently Dedede (or someone) must
have shown these guys a lot of kindness (so it probably
wasn't Dedede) so they all stayed. And apparently
multiplied like bunnies.
While the Dees are pretty tolerant of
being pushed around, even they have their limits...
Lololo and Lalala used to be one being- a
demon created by Nightmare named Lola. Nightmare
was angry with such a useless creature, so he had another
monster split him into his two halves and he sold them to
Dedede. Dedede was angry at being ripped off, so he gave
the twins to Memu and Parm, back when Fumu was just an
infant.
Lololo and Lalala grew up never knowing
where they came from, only that they shared a very strong
bond- to the point where they were never separate.
When they finally found out about their past, they were
actually very happy to know just how close they were!
Lololo and Lalala don't have much of a
role in the story, but they at least had an entire episode
devoted to them.
