Dedede's overdue bills to Holy
Nightmare have become too high, so they refuse to sell him
more demon beasts until he pays. But Dedede has other plans,
displaying an encyclopedia on botany...
Fumu reads a textbook aloud to
Bun and Kirby, before realizing that Kirby has wandered off
and Bun wasn't listening. Tokkori points out that Kirby left,
and they go to find him. Meanwhile, Kirby follows a
conspicuous trail of juicy apples, passing right by Rick and
into the dense forest.
He tells Fumu and the rest
where Kirby has gone, and they run into the forest despite his
warning not to. He runs into Postmaster Moso, who says he was
delivering a letter from King Dedede to someone in the woods.
The kids get lost while looking for Kirby in the maze-like
forest, and Tokkori recalls that they're in the dreaded forest
of Whispy Woods. Coo had told him that you can get lost there
forever. They send Tokkori to try and find the exit.
Parm and Memu worry that their
children haven't returned yet, with Memu pointing out that
Dedede is always trying to get Kirby. Dedede and Escargon show
up and make some cryptic comments on the whereabouts of the
kids before leaving.
Kirby shows up while Fumu and
Bun wait for Tokkori's return, nearly scaring them to death.
Tokkori comes back in a panic, saying how he found the way out
but got lost again going back. Fumu decides to set up camp and
they start a small campfire at the base of a tree in a
clearing.
A voice orders them to put out
the fire, and huge roots shoot out of the ground to surround
them. A face appears on the tree, revealing it to be Whispy
Woods. They introduce themselves, but Whispy says they are his
enemies and won't listen. He buries them in a mountain of
apples, and Dedede arrives. He had apparently warned Whispy
that someone would come to destroy him, but it was actually
Dedede himself. He pulls out a chainsaw and slices through
Whispy.
The other trees accuse Kirby
and the others of killing Whispy and attack him, causing Kirby
to spit up some of the apples he ate. The trees say if they
can find one of Whispy's apples, their king can be reborn. But
Dedede chops down these trees as well, and continues on until
every tree in the forest is felled.
It was all to build his private
gold course, the Royal Country Club. The villagers are
furious, as are Fumu and the rest. Dedede decides to use Kirby
as the ball for his first tee-off, but Kirby manages to spit
out a glowing apple, which grows instantly into Whispy Woods.
Whispy uses his apples to grow back the rest of the forest as
well. Dedede and Escargon get lost in the renewed forest,
while Kirby, Fumu and Bun eat apples up in Whispy's branches.
