The Music
The music is all different, except the 'Out of room'
theme, where you have almost filled the screen up with blobs.
The Title Screen
Opening both games, the title is bouncy
and shiny. Also, the title stretches in both games.
The Title Screen Background
You can see that the backgrounds on the titles are
both very similar... In fact they are virtually the same. The
character in Puyo (whom I'll talk about later), is shown with the text
Puyo over his head. There is also the developer's name, Compile, off
to the right. In the Kirby version, the background is darker, the name
above Kirby's head has been changed to Kirby... BUT you can see that
whoever edited the sprites didn't take out the Puyo text below. It
looks like they took out the Compile text, and only part of the first
P in Puyo. This clearly indicates that the original Puyo game engine
and style were used, and Kirby graphics and such were replaced.
Menu Screen
The menus are mildy different. The clouds scroll, a
blob is the cursor, both are practically the same except the graphics.
The Competition Screen
Both very very similar.
The Levels
Beginning a challenge works the same way in both
games. The main character runs into a foe, and short conversation is
held. The only different obviously is the text, graphics and
characters.
The Beginning Levels Taunt
In both games, after you have beaten the first three
tutorial type levels, the final bosses of the game come and taunt you.
Game Over
The game over screen is exactly the same! The only
thing besides the text difference, is the character Carbuncle has been
taken out, Kirby has been put in Arle's place and a few of blobs have
had their eyes edited to make so they look like they are looking at
Kirby.
The Level Backgrounds and Box Mascot
All of the level backgrounds are different. The only one that is
the same are the tutorial backgrounds. The only different is Puyo has
blue blocks, and Kirby has a Kirby themed background. You can also see
that Carbuncle is in the box as a mascot, while in the Kirby version
it's Kirby.
Main Competition Strip
The competition is laid out like a strip, where you can see what
boss is next. These are the same (test and everything) except for the
characters and box background colors.
High Scores
The high score is the same, besides text and entries.
Earth Shakin' Moves
In Super Puyo the level 12 boss, Zo-daimaoh, causes
an Earthquake on his side when he slams down the blobs. However, we
don't see this is Kirby's Avalanche until the final level with King
Dedede.
The Option Mode
This is exactly the same! Except when you go to the sound tests and
such, the sounds are different.
The Ending
While I don't want to spoil the ending
for those who have yet to beat Kirby's Avalanche, it is very similar,
if not the same.
