Ask Guru Gobbo #135There's been a lot of questions. Answers? Not so much. Kinda droll. - May 21st, 2009
Okay, something came to my attention just the other day. Some person said that the Kirby 64: Boss Theme was an arrangement of the Kirby's Adventure: Boss Theme. I've listened to both, but it's hard to tell if the 64 theme is similar to the Adventure theme, seeing as how most songs from the Kirby games sound similar to begin with. Can you help clarify this? Sincerely, - PrinceFlarema They definitely have a shared element of the repeating beat, best characterized with the horns in the 64 version and the blaring "duh-nah-nuh-nuh-nuh". However, there's so much added instrumentation and musical composure to the piece, it'd be like building a palace around a hut. Sure, there's still the hut, but it's lost under all that plush additive. Concerning Tripp Crazy's latest piece of dribble, especially concerning number 4, a correction is in order. When True Arena is unlocked, true it takes Arena's space, but when it's selected, it takes the player to another menu where they can select between the two arenas. Also, the description text and best time for both of them can be found on the bottom screen when that game is highlighted (as the menu itself is on the top screen). I won't hold your incorrect answer against you, as you've never played Ultra and I only learned about it by playing the game itself, but it does leave the impression that Tripp wasn't paying complete attention while playing. ...And yes, that's all I have. Man, all the good questions have been asked. - Supercomputer276 Yep, that about sums it up. Some things you can only get from playing, and I assume those who are playing have more insight into the game than myself. Of course, I would often forget things like how certain enemies behave. Of course, menu options are typically easier to remember, or know, than such things. Why does Mabel look so freaky when devil Kirby destroys her "crystal" ball? I mean that episode's creepy! Anyway, was that something that got overlooked in the edited version? How much of the Japanese show got cut out of the American version? And what is "poppy bros. sr. true face"? - GameQube 1) That's a classic exaggerated reaction. They do that a lot in animé (and even American cartoons), where their jaws drop and the detail level sky rockets for the only reason of putting comedic emphasis on the reaction. Really, does this even have to be asked? "Daa, why did Bugs Bunny's eyes pop out of his head when he saw something shocking?" This is Cartooning 101. 2) Wasn't that just covered? About, oh, two sessions ago? A bulk of the changes between the American and Japanese versions was pretty much just an outlink to Wikipedia. 3) You know, when I said that "real face" line, I linked directly to an old official art picture of Poppy Bros. Sr. from Avalanche. It was kinda the whole "in context" thing of referencing differences between in game appearances and official artwork. Is it that difficult to follow context? Or a link straight to the bloody thing? I want to make an account. I tried, but I never got the activation email. Also, I can't find the link to log in and try to register again. Help? I like this website, because I'm a Kirby fan too! Please help me! - Natalie Details: key for getting help on something. "A" account doesn't tell me anything. There's a dump of things it could be. The many sign-ups at the site don't help with their number and uniqueness. Typically, it's taken you mean the Forums, as that's about the only thing that matters to people. Outside of that, a lot of times people seem to click on some junk link like with defunct webrings and think it has meaning to "joining" the site. Depending on long ago this was, it could have been this now removed misdirect. Since you give zero insight to what you were trying to sign-up for exactly. Firstly, you know that tiger enemy that replaces Grizzo in Revenge of the King? Its Romaji is "Garuberu", and that's what it seems to be called most often around here, but I know just enough about Japanese to know that its translated name should probably be "Galbel". Of course, it could always be "Garvel" or something. Maybe I'm just looking too far into this. Secondly, do you have any reason why the animal friends and Dark Matter seem to keep coming up in cameos? I thought HAL wanted nothing more to do with the Dark Matter trilogy after Shimomura's death. Third, what's up with the Anti-Kirby creature from Link's Awakening? I know it's a Kirby cameo, but Kirby's species are native to Pop Star, not Hyrule, Koholint, or anywhere else. - Midna 1) Whaddaya know, I already know that. I assume this is in response to Garuberu appearing in the currently run Poll and not just manifest out of the blue with absolutely no reasoning behind it. The thing is, no matter what we may think its name is, we don't know. You put out Galbel, I said Galbal, but it could be Garvle or any other mess of things. The point is, we don't know what its name is actually, so rather than tossing out a fake one, I just go with what is known to be true, it's original Japanese name. 2) You're familiar with the whole Dark Matter Trilogy mess but somehow missed all the times the recurrences were discussed? Odd. Anyhoo, the Shimomura characters never make any true appearances. Appearing on a card or as a drawn shape, or even as some similarly named, similarly acting boss isn't a true appearances. They aren't physically acting in the game. Why are they there then? They need shapes, faces, and appearances to pad out the ranks of the mini-games, mostly. Everything is round. Try finding some type of distinction in a bag of jellybeans that isn't color. 3) It's not Kirby. It's a Kirby-like creature. It's just like how Gordo appeared in Super Mario Land 2 or any other of the numerous cameos into or outside of the series. It's a fun cameo. That's all it is, fun. Don't wrap your head too far around it. How many partners are there in Kirby Super Star Ultra? What are their names? - Shannon Ya know, Super Star Ultra has no more abilities or helpers than appear in the original. Outside of the new bosses (who are just upgrades of olds ones, truthfully), the new sub-games (which, too, are just upgrades of old ones), and handful of new enemies for one of those upgraded sub-games (yes, still improvements), nothing was really added to the game. The old Super Star game information page still has about all the information you need for Super Star Ultra, just like how Adventure suffices for Nightmare in Dream Land. It's all the same. Anyhoo, all you seek has been findable here for years at the Super Star Friends page. 1) Can Kirby get sick or poisoned? He eats so many enemies whole without cooking (unless he has the cook ability) and food that's just lying around can raise some sanitary concerns. Kirby's able to, however eat things such as flaming enemies, needled enemies (is needled a word?), and even bombs, all without harm. How good do you think Kirby's immune system is and do you think he could be poisoned? 2) Do you think that Kirby's species change color when they get older (like how hair tends to get darker as you age but then turns gray)? The anime probably is inaccurate, but the it says that Kirby's a baby, and you yourself have said that, while he's not a baby, is still fairly young. Metaknight is obviously older and more experienced, so he could have been a different color before. Perhaps they start out as a light color, like pink or yellow, and gradually darken to a dark blue or red. Or he could just be a similar looking yet different species altogether, like those enemies in Kirby's Dreamland 3, bakubons I think they're called. - Carby 1) Dude, I'm sorry, but this is, like, five answers from the dusty ol' archives that I don't really feel like re-typing and can't seem to find. It's all boring fake-outs, however. Really, I could just scream "Kirby's not real!" while pelting you with Swedish Fish and it would probably leave you more satisfied. 'Cuz, hey, at least there's Swedish Fish in that scenario. Note: neither will play out. Rather, I'ma take-a nap. 2) I've actually seen this theory before. Some fan artist used the concept to portray older Kirby and younger Meta Knight. They also had the shoes/feet lighten as the other darkened. Here's the thing about the theory: it's a line drawn from one point to nothing. There are no connections that it is attached to. Kirby is known to be young and is pink. Meta Knight is, in the animated series only, known to be older and a darker blue color. You never see Kirby older or Meta Knight younger to know that a change occurs. On top of that, Kirby isn't a "light" color. He's just pink. The hue is really the same luminosity as Meta Knight. No, the only thing the color of the puff ball's skin tells is that the puff balls come in a variety of colors. Nothing implies that age changes any of it. It's all fan conjecture. Now, that foe you are thinking of is Batamon, and Meta Knight is not a Batamon. Batamon is one of the few enemies that has detailed information given about, and it is clearly stated that it is nothing more than a creature that looks kinda like Kirby, and Kirby alone. It's only pink. Why isn't there a story behind Wham Bam Jewel when there's one for Masked Dedede, Galacta Knight, or Marx Soul? - Anonymus I would have no problem with someone not leaving a name if the dang fellers knew how to spell anonymous correct! Well, my peeves aside, there's no story in that story. Helper to Hero is just a boss spread with a different player. Jewel was just thrown in to give it some hint of special. Let's review: In Revenge of the King, there's a Revenge of Meta Knight-like dialogue session that explains things and back story to Masked Dedede. In Meta Knightmare Ultra, there's a whole dialogue part between NOVA and Meta Knight that sets up who and why Galacta Knight is. Then, Marx Soul doesn't have anything except for a cinema scene to sorta tell what he is, and he's the lastest and most final of the bosses, so he deserves his own movie. What is Wham Bam Jewel? Some guy who appears in the first of the accessed new sub-games that is probably going to be played twenty-some times, one for each helper. Are they going to have the player sit through the same explanation that many times? No. Are they going to have a movie play every one of those times? No. Are they even going to make a big deal out of it? No. Wham Bam Jewel is the least important of the big, bad bosses. Really, is he anything more than regular Whammers made up in shinier graphics. Apologies if this is the wrong place to be asking, 'cause I know it is. What happened to A Kirby and His Cheese? She hasn't been making many pictures lately -- not since March, and usually she's waaay more active than that. - Princess Tetra You didn't know? It's only been said a good many number of times up-and-down the site. In a recent Mailbag and certainly in the Fan Art Gallery. Yeah, the dummy went and said her actual age -- under that legally required to sign up for an account. That's going for the gust; not breaking some little site standard but full blown federal law. The overlording Galmin needs to be looking out for this site's better interest if no one else. From what I heard, she was still grieving the oekaki with her spam-like flow. ... Who? You! You're Galmin. Isn't that your name? Ometon Galmin? I could swear that's what it was. A toaster told me. It never burns my toast, so that's, like, the appliance equal to trustworthiness, right? In Kirby Super Star Ultra, Meta Knight fixes NOVA. Nothing happens to the comet after that. Later, though, you see that Marx absorbed NOVA (you can see the gears floating into his...energy...bubble). So what happened? - Anonymous Contributor He doesn't fix NOVA. At least, that's not how the scene plays out the way I see it. Which, really, I never have seen it, but still. This has nothing to do with "facts" and "what's there". My take on it is that NOVA is all-powerful. That supreme being is beyond any type of termination. When Kirby collected all of the stars' power from the surrounding worlds, he was able to summon NOVA. When Meta Knight did the same, he called upon the clockwork colossus again. NOVA is a supreme, wish granter. Do you think he couldn't pull himself back together? Nah, the dude just probably didn't have anywhere to be and was just kickin' it. You know, that but less informally worded. The stars are effectively a phone number. In all folklore throughout history, there are several ways to have power over a being like that. Knowing their name, having their soul in a jar, etc. However, this just makes them heed your word and come at your beckoning. It doesn't mean you hold the powers of life and death over them. Well, except for the pickled soul, obviously. But, in that case, you could really just kill and not patch up. Marx is a wholly separate and distinct issue to address. "Absorbed NOVA"? Where are you pulling that cracked idea from? He did no such thing. He had more of a spontaneous and chaotic rebirth. It could have been from the lingering sparks of power and temporal flux of the detonation site or it could have nothing to even do with NOVA and just be tied to the fact that he was given godlike abilities for a short time. Since it's Kirby, their lips are sealed to the truth of the matter. Sure, some gears and piece went into him. You saw NOVA before unleashing Galacta Knight. He was far from back-to-normal and was more busted up than ever. He was largely whole, but that's a big machine. I have enough left over parts when I assemble something smaller than me, and he's on a planetary scale. You can imagine the leftovers that would be floating in space from that rushed patch job.
